Consulting Experience

Matt has over 15 years experience working as an archaeologist in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and the Middle East. Since 2005, he has predominantly worked as a consultant archaeologist throughout all regions of Victoria and Queensland.

Matt specialises in Indigenous archaeological assessments and is experienced in managing and conducting major archaeological assessments for both large-scale and small scale commercial public and private projects, undertaking cultural heritage management plans to approval and conducting consultation with Indigenous communities. Matt has a clear understanding of the Victorian, Queensland and Commonwealth legislation and can provide assessments, reports and negotiate management actions that address the requirements of regulatory bodies to best practice standards.

Matt has skills in all aspects of archaeological consulting, archival/desktop assessment, due diligence and risk assessment, archaeological survey, excavation direction, post-excavation procedures, assessment of significance, project planning, expert statements and consultation with stakeholders.

Matt has extensive experience in spatial surveying, photographing, sub-surface testing, monitoring and excavating Aboriginal and historical archaeological sites. Matt also has experience with both Aboriginal stone tool analysis and historical artefact analysis. He is highly experienced in artefact photography.
