AACAI NSW/ACT Workshop on Stone Tools

The AACAI NSW/ACT Chapter invites you to a day of professional development in stone artefact identification and analysis, hosted by Heritage Now and presented by Dr Trudy Doelman.

Participants can register for either the introductory morning workshop, the advanced afternoon workshop, or both sessions at a discounted rate (with lunch included).

Places are limited to 15 people.

Part 1: Stone Tool & Artefact Identification

📅 Wednesday 8 October 2025
🕙 10:00am – 12:00pm (2 hours)

This session is intended for participants new to stone artefacts, or those who want a refresher on artefact identification.

Objectives for end of the session participants will be expected to be able to:

1.        Identify stone sources and characteristics,

2.        Identify common NSW raw material types,

3.        Identify a stone artefact and classification,

4.        Identify basic artefact attributes (cores & flakes),

5.        Recognise common retouch & tool types.

🍴 Lunch (12:00–1:00pm) provided for full-day participants

Part 2: Advanced Stone Tool Identification & Analysis

📅 Wednesday 8 October 2025
🕐 1:00pm – 3:00pm (2 hours)

10am-Noon (2 hours) Wednesday 8th October 2025, 51 Reuss St, Leichhardt NSW

This session is intended for participants who are familiar with stone artefacts and will be focussed on more advanced stone artefact identification to link analysis and interpretation.

• Participants will get a certification of participation

• For those who have Archaeological passports this will be an opportunity to work towards sign off on lithics skills
