SUMMARY:Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology (ASHA) Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:Finding Common Ground: 2026 ASHA Conference\, Brisbane \nSave the Date and Call for Papers \nMore than ever\, historical archaeology must bring together diverse practitioners\, methods and perspectives. For 2026 the Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology presents our friendliest conference yet\, to give us all space to find our common ground. Join ASHA in sunny Brisbane on Friday and Saturday 21-22 August 2026 to explore what we share across our varied approaches and experience. This conference celebrates the discipline’s inclusivity while asking how we find shared purpose and understanding across different research traditions\, community partnerships\, theoretical frameworks\, and practical applications. ASHA conferences are well known for having a supportive atmosphere. We therefore particularly welcome early career archaeologists\, students and ‘HA-curious’ archaeologists to experience this for themselves! \nPaper submissions are now open. This year\, we are calling for conference paper submissions without sessions. We aim to provide space for papers on any topic relevant to ASHA\, from which papers will be aligned to create sessions. We hope to open up more genuinely cohesive session themes through this process and establish new common ground! \nPlease email conference@asha.org.au with your paper submission. Paper abstracts are due by 1 June 2026. \nRegistration \nRegistrations are open through Humanitix here.

SUMMARY:Australian Archaeological Association (AAA) Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce the theme for the 2026 Conference and look forward to welcoming you in Adelaide/Tarntanya\, SA from 1 – 4 December 2026. \nWe Remember—Stories from the Past\, Visions for the Future \nHosted on Kaurna Yerta\, the ancestral Country of the Kaurna people\, the 2026 AAA Conference invites archaeologists to reflect on our shared responsibility to past\, present\, and future stories. Under the theme “We Remember—Stories from the Past\, Visions for the Future”\, we ask: how do we walk in the footsteps of those who came before\, and how might we sit with their stories by the fire? How can archaeological practice in Australia continue to grow as a meeting place of scientific method\, cultural knowledge\, ethical practice\, and community voice? As archaeologists\, we work with fragments\, objects\, landscapes\, oral histories\, images\, and yet we are always building stories\, whether rooted in science\, story\, or spirit. This conference invites contributions that speak to the integration of diverse ways of knowing: Indigenous and Western\, technological and traditional\, material and relational. \nWe welcome papers from across the spectrum of archaeological research\, excavation\, community-led practice\, theory\, heritage management\, scientific analysis\, remote sensing\, and beyond. Submissions that reflect on the integration of Indigenous knowledge systems\, cultural authority\, and ethical collaboration are especially encouraged. Let us gather on Kaurna land not just to look back\, but to look forward to shape an archaeology that is responsive\, responsible\, and resonant with the many voices of this place. \nConference website here \nAACAI are silver sponsors of the conference and will be hosting the Meet the Graduates & Colleagues Event on 2 December – check out event details on this elsewhere.
