Edward East has worked as a consultant archaeologist since 2007. He has studied Australian Aboriginal archaeology and cultural heritage management extensively, as well Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Over the course of his career, he has been employed by leading cultural heritage consultancies and universities. Across Victoria, in his capacity as a Heritage Advisor, he has directed many Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMP) from quote to approval. In Queensland and Western Australia, he has undertaken numerous remote area Aboriginal focused survey projects as well as overseeing the management of Aboriginal cultural heritage for large scale remote area mining projects. In an international context he has been employed by universities while working on commercial archaeology projects in Papua New Guinea, Kuwait and the United Kingdom. He is passionate about working in archaeology and with indigenous peoples. In 2018 Edward founded Compass Heritage Services, which has grown into a well-known and successful Victorian based consultancy, that undertakes both Aboriginal and historic cultural heritage management projects. Edward is a Full Member of the Australian Association of Consulting Archaeologists (AACAI) and was the state representative for Victoria across 2023.
