Joanna is a highly qualified archaeologist and heritage advisor having worked within in Australia and internationally since 1999. After completing her Masters degree, Jo worked in both historical archaeology and Aboriginal cultural heritage in Victoria. In addition to her experience working on local Indigenous and historic excavations, Jo has participated in excavations of the Chalcolithic, Early Bronze and Iron Age in Turkey and has published articles on Near Eastern archaeology in international journals. Her key areas of study include prehistoric archaeology, ancient cultures and cultural heritage management and she has a particular interest in the archaeology of women and the division of labour within societies.

Jo has successfully managed and authored historical heritage assessments as well as numerous Aboriginal cultural heritage management plans (CHMPs), cultural heritage assessments (CHAs) and archaeological surveys across Victoria. Jo has also participated in historical excavations and is involved in the cataloging of artefacts and interpretation reports for a range of heritage projects.
