Joanna is a highly qualified archaeologist and heritage advisor having worked within in Australia and internationally since 1999. After completing her Masters degree, Jo worked in both historical archaeology and Aboriginal cultural heritage in Victoria. In addition to her experience working on local Indigenous and historic excavations, Jo has participated in excavations of the Chalcolithic, Early Bronze and Iron Age in Turkey and has published articles on Near Eastern archaeology in international journals. Her key areas of study include prehistoric archaeology, ancient cultures and cultural heritage management and she has a particular interest in the archaeology of women and the division of labour within societies.

From June 2025, Jo will be taking on the role of Principal Archaeologist at Dr. Vincent Clark and Associates.Prior to this, Jo held the position of Director at ArchLink Archaeologists and Heritage Advisors, overseeing all Indigenous and heritage projects to ensure each one runs smoothly and efficiently. She has a thorough understanding of heritage legislative requirements in Victoria including the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006, Aboriginal Heritage Regulations 2018, the Heritage Act 2017 and the Heritage Regulations 2017 and has a sound working knowledge of the Heritage Act 1977 in NSW.Jo has successfully authored numerous cultural heritage management plans, cultural heritage assessments and historical archaeological assessments across diverse environments and has been involved in the cataloguing and interpretation of artefacts both Indigenous and non-Indigenous for large projects.She has a strong working relationship with each client, RAP and Traditional Owner groups, Heritage Victoria and Heritage NSW.
