Consulting Experience
Jim Wheeler is a founding Director at Extent Heritage Pty Ltd. Jim has 30 years experience as a professional archaeologist undertaking a diverse range of cultural heritage management, strategic planning, heritage policy, stakeholder consultation, interpretation, academic research and heritage assessment projects. Jim has a range of research interests and has published peer reviewed journal articles and presented conference papers on the archaeology of submerged terrestrial sites, non-site landscape archaeology, cultural values mapping and heritage policy. Jim primarily specialises in Aboriginal archaeological research and cultural heritage management, but his experience includes management of large scale multidisciplinary heritage management and research projects, which encompasses experience leading historical archaeological heritage projects and experience at site supervisor level in Irish medieval and iron age excavation projects. Jim was a past member of the Aboriginal Affairs Victoria Technical Advisory Group (TAG), was a 2019 ICCROM Research Fellow in Rome and was awarded the 2010 Laila Haglund Prize for Excellence in Consulting Archaeology.
