JJ is a Project Manager/Principal Archaeologist at Echoes Cultural Heritage Management based in Perth, WA. He has been a professional and consulting archaeologist since graduating from his Masters in Landscape Archaeology in 2007, working in Ireland (on underwater and terrestrial archaeological sites) and in Australia (predominantly in Western Australia). He has significant experience in Cultural Heritage Management (CHM) in Australia and has managed numerous Aboriginal and historical cultural heritage projects across Western Australia. He is highly proficient in GIS applications (ESRI ArcMap/QGIS) as it is applied to archaeological mapping & analysis. He has an advanced knowledge of cultural heritage and Native Title legislation in Australia and is a strong advocate for improved preservation and protections for cultural heritage places and landscapes, as well as professional standards in CHM in Australia.
JJ has been a member of AACAI since 2013, becoming a full member in 2018. He has been a pro-active advocate of the Association since stepping up as the WA Chapter Secretary in 2017. He has passionately promoted AACAI as a professional body for archaeologists in Australia and has helped invigorate its presence and voice in matters pertaining to cultural heritage legislation and standards. On behalf of AACAI, he has organised several social events and professional development workshops, drafted public and media statements, and was the chief organiser for the WA Future Forum in 2020.
